We all know that motherhood is a life changing experience, and many mums fear that motherhood will mean that they will lose a lot of friends...but research involving 4,000 mums has found that the average mum will have 8 new friends by one month after delivery.
The research was conducted by Cancer charity CLIC Sargent as part of their Yummy Mummy fundraising campaign.
I love hearing stories about yummy mummies who find that motherhood CAN be a positive experience...for me personally, it could have been my young, solo mum status but I didn't really find this to be true...until I read on further, and it turns out that friendships just don't have to be all in 'real life'
The study suggests that women who have children share the privilege of an extended friendly circle, with most of the friends they meet being because of their kids.
It was found that 44 percent of the mums were most likely to meet new pals in the school playgrounds, 32 percent in the nursery, and 22 percent at coffee mornings.
One in 10 even met new pals during working out at the gym or the health clubs.
The other meeting places included mother and baby groups, daycare centers, childbirth classes, school plays and concerts, church, village halls, and fund raising events.
Among those who were Internet savvy, eight out of ten mums used to keep in touch via social networking sites such Facebook. Some mums also used emails, four in 10 relied on text messages, and one in five used instant messaging to chat with their pals.
The Web savvy mums were found to spend at least two hours a day surfing the Web, which included shopping, browsing news sites, gossip pages and Twitter.
Oooh...so that's great news for MoT members :)
So, tell me...what have you experienced since becoming a mother? More friends? Less? Online? Off?
I've personally made some GREAT friends here on Mums on Top, and is of course one of the primary reasons it was formed...tell us your stories!
