hi ladies, just wondering if any of you have had water births? I had 1 with my son alomst 8 years ago now, and am planning on having 1 again with this baby. I absolutely loved it and would fully recomend it.
i had one with DD and im planning a home water birth with the one on the way. I would highly recommend them as i found it took away pretty much all of the pain
I found it helped with the pain, but didn't completely eliminate it, I did have a long labour though 23 1/2 hours, the last 5 hours of which I spent in the birthing pool. Up until then I was in and out of the shower. I had also considered a water birth at home for this 1 aswel, but since we don't have our hot water run on gas I decided to stick with having it at the local maternity hospital. I don't wana run the risk of running out of hot water and having to have a dry birth instead.

I loved having a home water birth. I am the sort of person that will have a nice long hot shower if I'm feeling tired or out of sorts, so water is a good thing for me. It really helped me with the pain in labour too. The difference from in being in the water to out of it was unmeasurable.
About the hot water thing, we don't have gas hot water at our place either, but what we did was filled up the pool with a bit of cold water first, then drained the hot water cylinder into it (we knew I wouldn't need a shower for a wee while yet, plenty of time for it to fill up and heat up again!), then got heaps of huge pots boiling on gas cookers out on the front step. It was labour-intensive for my birth support people and took a long time, but we coped. You definitely need an extra birth support person around if this is the way you do it. However, I plan to birth at home in the water with this baby, but I will hire what's called a caliphont - it's pretty much a portable instant hot water heater. It works exactly the same as an Infinity, you just hook it up to your hose outside. It comes with gas bottles and stuff. Most midwives will know someone who has one you can hire or otherwise try hire companies. I'm not having a water birth without one next time!
Wow that sounds absolutely awesome Jess. I would love to do it that way but unfortunately it's just totally out of our budget, but I'm happy with birthing at my local maternity hospital again, they were fantastic last time and it's a really lovely unit, close to home aswel. My midwife knows I want to come home as soon as possible after the birth and she supports me in my decissions so that's good aswel.
