My daughter is only 8 years old, but my friends and I with daughters of similar age have been discussing recently how old we were when we got our first period, and how old our girls will be.  I would be interested to hear other peoples experience on this.  I am pretty sure I was only 10, and assume my daughter will be about the same.  Has anyone here had daughters who have had theirs extremely young?  Has the new generation started earlier than we did??  Your thoughts please..

My daughter is nearly 13 but hasn't got hers yet (YAH!!) According to a gp friend, it has more to do with weight than actual age and on average girls are between 42 -45kgs when they start.

Thank You Vynka for your interesting comment about weight being a factor. My daughter is underweight, so maybe we will have a couple of extra years up our sleeve!

That sounds like it could be right actually =) I have always been quite tall so was probably heavy by 11.

I have also been really tall all my life, and not small boned either, yet I was 14??

My eldest (now 16) was 11yrs when she got her's. However, I have a 12 yr old who looks like she is a wee away from getting it yet ... that is, I am comparing her physical growth to her sisters when she got her period. I am assuming that once one has started developing physically then their period comes some time soon after that. Obviously this is not a hard & fast rule, but seems to be the case with my daughters & other family members.

i was 14, and i am so glad it wasn't earlier. i was terrified of getting it.

I think I was about 11 or 12, my daughter is 10 and a lot of her friends have already started, very scary as I still see her as a little girl.
